I came across this poem the other week when looking for something for Poetry Friday. I decided to save it until today - because today my husband turns 42 (and I'll be there a few months from now). I don't know that I've ever thought of falling down on a balloon - but it's good to have options.
The Morning Walk
by A.A. Milne
When Anne and I go on a walk,
We hold each other's hand and talk
Of all the things we mean to do
When Anne and I are forty-two.
And when we've thought about a thing,
Like bowling hoops or bicycling,
Or falling down on Anne's balloon,
We do it in the afternoon.
Becky is hosting the Poetry Friday round-up over at Farm School.
So cute, Chris!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your husband :)
Heh. Every summer at camp we "fell down" on balloons... rather bottom side down, but it's still falling, right? And a perfect thing to do at a 42nd birthday party. Joy to you and Mr. 42.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to both of you! Here's to taking a walk, making plans and then doing them together in the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your hubby. And Jama Rattigan has Milne today too - must be a Poetry Friday Zeitgeist.
ReplyDeleteso funny, and probably the perfect activity for his birthday party :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet poem Chris. Happy Birthday to your dear husband.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that he's 42 and that today is Milne's birthday too. What synchronicity! Many happy returns from Farm School too (there's a special Pooh greeting for him at my Poetry Friday post, too).
ReplyDeleteSweet poem! Hope your husband had a great birthday!
ReplyDeleteWhen Anne and I go for a walk
ReplyDeleteWe surely soon begin to talk
But, while we once discussed the moon
I can't recall discussing a balloon.
However, if I were going to fall
Which I don't hope to do at all
I think I'd hardly come to ruin
If I fell on Anne's balloon.
Dad - I love your poem. And please don't fall, not even on a balloon.
ReplyDeleteCharming poem! Thanks for sharing.
