And the Question is?

Once upon a time when I read the five books in Douglas Adam's hitchhiker trilogy I was delighted to learn that there was an answer to Life, the Universe and Everything. It was a very simple answer. Of course the book was quick to point out - that's the answer - but what's the question.

And why do I bring this up today? Because the answer is 42. And although I don't know what the ultimate question is - I do know that's how old I turned today. I think I should feel wiser.

And in parting - here's a birthday picture from many years ago.

  2. Happy Birthday, you youngster! I am 10 months older than you :)

(Doesn't that make you feel young?)

I wish you many years of good health & happiness! Sto lat (Polish, may you live 100 years).

  4. For some reason, during the last 42 years, I have always felt older on your birthday, not mine. Today is no exception, although I'm not sure if the feeling I have is older or just tired. Mom and I were very busy doing physical labor around the house over the weekend and today we took a long walk on the beach before taking our first and only daughter out to lunch. Since that picture was taken a while ago, many things have changed. I note that two of your brothers are in that picture and they now have children of their own. Still, many have stayed the same, like blowing out the candles on a cake. May you have many, many more cakes to blow the candles out on and may your family grow and prosper. There, now I don't feel so old or tired anymore.

    Love,

    Dad

  7. Thanks everyone!

Dad - a lot certainly has changed since that picture. There was a whole other brother for one thing.

And speaking of that other brother - Leo, I think you've been working for the government too long. "no further comment at this time."?

And Kelly - thanks for the writing wishes. :)

  10. The cake does look very nice. That dress has a lot to be desired though. The dating in the picture is the fruit punch. Can you even get good fruit punch in a can anymore?
