'Cause That's So Much Better

"We used to play Terminator in gym class," said Pippi. "It's a lot like dodge ball. But they banned dodge ball because it was too dangerous."

Yeah, there's a lot of renaming-of-dodgeball going on. Middle Sister's school does that, as well as the school where my sister teaches PE. "Terminator" is a new one on me, though.

Yeah, "terminator" seems a bit intense. And if you ban dodge ball, but simply rename it and keep playing it, what exactly have you accomplished. It's a crazy world!

OK, I just checked with Middle Sister. In her school, they don't play "dodgeball." They play "Extreme Horseback Riding."

Personally, I think it was a little unnecessary to ban "dodgeball" in the first place...

Extreme Horseback riding? Whatever happened to volleyball? Or square dancing? I remember doing square dancing in gym.

I was terrified of dodge ball! And square dancing! (Just imagine who you could get paired with :) ) P.E. in general was a trial.

Kelly, dodgeball scared me too. I don't particularly care for any games where the goal is to hit someone with something. And yes, I suppose square dancing could have its own issues.

I agree with Barb that is was stupid to ban dodgeball. Volleyball is just as bad, and I like playing them both. In volleyball, you know that people are just aiming to spike the ball at people's head. Not to mention the fact that I have never had a dodgeball injury, but I have three disfigured fingers from volleyball. Sometimes blocking a ball isn't worth the point saved.
