A Little Star Power

My sister-in-law called this evening to tell me that my husband's cousin was on TV. Okay - yes, I find out things in a round-about way. Anyway, Kim was competing on American Gladiators. So, although we hadn't been planning on watching it, I hurried the kids to the TV so we could watch Kim compete. We had missed the first half of the show. In the first competition we saw Kim in she did pretty well. Then we watched the men compete. And then it was the final eliminations for the women.

Kim was upbeat and cheery (I've never seen her any other way) and optimistic. Unfortunately she faltered - and lost badly. But even at the end - she was still upbeat and (maybe not quite as) cheery. She'd done her best. She'd tried hard. The wall had given her a hard time - but she hadn't given up. She hadn't won - but she'd given it her all.

And isn't that the way of life - you can give it your all, you can be confident and ready - and still not make it. But when you don't make it - you hold your head up high and know that just competing makes you a winner; that obstacles may stand in your way - but they don't stop you. And what better lesson to teach my kids. And they could even get the lesson from the star in the family.

Thanks Kim.

I would like to point out that those who made fun of me during a certain birthday party about watching American Gladiators were the same ones watching with great enthusiasm tonight. See, you didn't think there could be lessoned learned from watching it.

Wow! Very cool, Chris. You're right: doing something like that takes guts. And that means everything. Kudos to your husband's cousin!

ok, point taken. And it was a good thing you were watching it because otherwise we would have missed it...

...Because the kids and I were watching "The Facts of Life" on YouTube. (you can stop laughing now)

I can't make fun of the Facts of Life. I like that show. I can't say that I have watched it recently, but I do like that one. It is better than the other ones you got them watching. Not too mention it has George Clooney....well eventually he is on. I don't know where you are yet in it.

Awesome! My brother-in-law was on an Animal Planet show one time and my son still talks about it.

I'll have to see if my son DVR'ed it or catch the rerun later this week.

My one son (now 23) would love to be a contestant. We have home videos of all 3 kids playing Gladiators when they were in the 4 to 7 yr old range (during the original version's run).

(Sorry, but I was watching Dance Wars)

Very cool story. Sounds like your husband's cousin was a winner just competing with grace on the show. Thanks for sharing this one. I bet your kids will learn alot from this.
