What Will the Teacher Say to This?

Harry came home today, went to the piano and played some music. It wasn't any music I recognized, but it was very pretty. When he was done, he came to me and said "Did you hear what I just played? I composed that during school."

"It's very pretty," I told him, "but what were you supposed to be doing in school when you were composing music?"

"I was supposed to be doing a picture prompt [writing a story based on a picture]. I couldn't think of anything. So I just wrote the music down."

That should provoke an interesting comment from his teacher.

I can't wait.

Well, a lot of musicians see the music that they hear in their head, so if he is smart he uses that as an out.

Music tells a story, right?

Do post. I'm interested to hear what the teacher says. And if she has him play for the class. :)

Well, I'm here going insane trying to learn music by ear and to teach myself how to play the banjo, so I know what happened. My mother played the violin; my father played the drums and the talent just went right through me without stopping at all, but it did go through me. I bought a piano which Harry plays when he comes here and Mom and I gave Harry his first guitar, so, as with Kristin's pictures (see her blog), it is clear that I am the inspiration for all of this musical genius. I know Harry appreciates it and he is very welcome. There, now I feel better.

Some people will take credit for anything when they fall behind in the family.
